STEP #1:
Plug your 3G or 3GS into your computer. Open Redsnow Beta 5 or Beta 6.
Right click (on PC) and Run as Administrator if you are Vista or Windows 7.
Select XP Compatibility Mode Service Pack 1 or 2 after you right click RedSnow and go to the Compatibilities TAB .
Follow directions and select your OFFICIAL FIRMWARE and those steps asked in Redsnow.
Once you get to the "Please select your setting's page", UNCHECK ALL except the last one which is
"Just enter pwned DFU mode right now". This should successfully put your iPhone in the correct DFU mode.
How do you know? Well the apple logo will NOT show and NEITHER will the iTunes Sync Icon. It will just be DARK/BLACK
STEP #2:
Once that is all accomplished (while keeping it plugged in), open iTunes (10 or 9 doesn't matter) and it will attempt
to restore your iPhone. If you are using a PC, hold down SHIFT + click RESTORE then select your custom FM (.ipsw).
If you are using a MAC, hold down OPTIONS + click RESTORE. The 4.2.1 Custom Firmware will work with both PC and MAC.
Yes! It will work with the new bootroms.
STEP #3:
What happens if you encounter Error 1600, 1605, 1015, 3918, etc.
AFTER you have selected your Custom Firmware to restore? During the restore process, it will attempt to upload
and download data back and forth and sometimes you are not really in DFU mode when you THINK you are.
So basically, to resolve this problem, go back and attemp STEP#1 until you get a BLANK/BLACK screen while PLUGGED in!
No symbols, no logos. Once you have done that, go back to this step to retry. 9/10 times Error "whatever" while trying
to RECOVER at this stage is due to non-proper DFU mode. *Note that this does not apply to iTouch, older BB iPhones, etc.
(it might) but for the sake of this new RedSnow & 6.15.00 BB case, lets just say it applies to only this for now.*
After it have successfully restored, (should not take longer than 8 minutes, if so, somethings wrong,
repeat the steps again) it should take you to the EMERGENCY CALL lock screen. You are more than 1/2 way there!
Congrats! ; )
4.) If you have a AT&T SIM Card (even if its not activated), plug it in and it should activate the phone and take
you to the homepage. This also saves you the trouble with having to go with SAM later on to "deactivate" and all that.
So get your hands on those USED SIM Cards if you could find any! Haha
5.) HOWEVER, if you don't have a sim car, run Redsnow again and this time, UNSELECT all except
"Just boot tethered right now" and let it do its thing.
6.) After you phone is rebooted, you should be able to access your home screen again. Horray!!!
7.) At this point. Everything should work. If Cydia is not shown or does not work, run RedSnow yet AGAIN
and select "Install iPad Baseband"
*** DO NOT & I REPEAT DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL CYDIA AGAIN IF YOU ALREADY HAVE IT!!! IF ITS SHOWN ON THE SCREEN,
ITS THERE, JUST NOT WORKING RIGHT SO YOU NEED TO "REBOOT AS TETHERED ONLY". INSTALLING CYDIA WHEN YOU ALREADY
HAVE WOULD LITERALLY KILL YOU BRAIN CELLS TRYING TO MAKE YOUR PHONE WORK AGAIN ***
8.) If all this is done correctly, your phone is good as it is should be with the exception that now your iPhone
is tethered and you have to wait for a "patch" to fix that later down the road.
solution to get off loop recovery after upgrade to 06xxxx baseband
